Prospective Students

We discover timely solutions to the world's most complex problems and enrich the lives of people throughout our community, the state of Washington, the nation, and the world.

Technical Communication is one of today's fastest changing and fastest growing fields in academia and industry. Not long ago, TC concerned itself almost exclusively with print documents, but today the work of a technical communicator can vary greatly, including design of multimedia, website development, and content computing. TC job titles now include "executive producer" and "interactive experience designer" as well as "writer" and "editor."

The Department of Technical Communication at the University of Washington (UWTC) is housed in the College of Engineering. The department offers a cutting-edge, hands-on educational experience that equips students to move directly into the front ranks of the profession.

UWTC programs are competitive. Admission committees for all of our programs look for well-rounded students who have a strong communication foundation. For specific information about admission to one of our programs be sure to look at the Programs and Advising page. Additionally, the Society for Technical Communication has an on-line database of searchable technical communication programs for review.
