Undergraduate

The Bachelor of Science in Technical Communication (BSTC) program gives students a solid foundation in math and science coupled with strong communication skills. Students learn to design, write, edit, and evaluate technical and scientific materials. Students also learn about the rhetoric of technical discourse, human-computer interaction (HCI), public policy and technology, hypermedia and multimedia, publications management, and online support systems. Graduates apply their knowledge to create and enhance communication in scientific and technical environments.

There are over 20 courses for students to choose from within the department, including options for self-study and special projects. The department is relatively small, so students have many opportunities to work individually with the faculty. Students usually take four to seven quarters to complete the degree. For more information, visit the TC at the UW and the Expected Jobs in TC pages.

Additionally, BSTC students are required to create online portfolios as part of their Senior Study project (TC 493). See below for a sample of these portfolios.
