Most internships are with local companies. However, several excellent internship possibilities exist with non-local employers. These are usually full-time, Summer quarter internships for which the employer pays a salary and re-location expenses. If this kind of opportunity interests you, you should discuss your interest with the internship advisor. Note that while many companies pay student interns, others do not. Whether or not an internship is paid is entirely at the discretion of the employer. If you do not secure your own internship, the internship advisor will make every effort to place students for whom pay is especially important with a company that does pay interns. However, it is impossible to guarantee that every student seeking a paid internship can be provided with one. After reviewing your file, if you have not already found an internship, the internship advisor will contact companies that seem likely to be able to provide you with the kind of internship experience you are seeking. If the company expresses an interest in having you join them, someone from the company will contact you to arrange for an interview. If all goes well, you will be offered an internship. During the interview, you should gather the information listed on the internship contract data sheet. Submit the completed sheet to the internship advisor at least a week prior to your first day on the job. |
